Generating sustainable energy fuels and women entrepreneurship in India.

Biomass briquettes are the most sustainable source of energy made by processing agro waste. As we pace ahead in time, the cost of development is borne by the environment. Rapid industrialization, deforestation and the practice of crop-residue burning to prepare the farmers faster for the next crop have endangered the ecological balance. It’s high time to bear our social responsibilities. Biomass briquettes come to the rescue. It is not only a cheap source of energy for MSME industries but a great substitute for cooking charcoal in rural areas. Additionally, the biomass briquettes factories set in rural areas are encouraging women entrepreneurship. Healthy surroundings, financially stable families and empowered women are three vital pillars of economical development for a country. Biomass briquettes projects are serving all three dimensions.

“To empower a woman is to empower the entire nation”, taking this belief ahead, Shivam Swachh Soch (SSSPL) joined hands with The Purnima Foundation (TPF), a non-profit charitable trust in Kolkata. They empower women by extending supporting hands in running and managing the biomass briquettes factory at Kaorakhali village in No. 2 Gram Panchayat of Kultali block of South 24 Paragans district.

The highlight of this unit is that it is run solely by 24 women from the village. Women are direct beneficiaries thus boosting their confidence, polishing their skills and paving a brighter future for not only women but the entire village. This is SSSPL’s way to encourage women entrepreneurship and at the same time give back to society.
